Part 6. What Can We Do For You?

Historically, sea freight is the only economic option that can ship large volume of goods over long distances. Cost is based entirely on weight and size, which makes air freight uncompetitive. However, with the increasing speed of international trade, digital ordering and timely logistics, air freight is becoming a more viable option. More efficient aircraft use less fuel and are designed to achieve maximum carrying capacity. Modern airports and air traffic control systems speed up turnaround times and simplify the air industry. Scale efficiency has come into play, and high-tech logistics systems can be used to maximize the burden on incoming and outgoing flights. As the demand for air cargo services (especially from China to the international hub - Dubai, UAE) increases, costs become more competitive.

For bulky goods and non-urgent deliveries, sea transportation is still the best choice. However, this is not without disadvantages. Due to the long transit time at sea, the risk of freight increases. Severe weather conditions, piracy and other unpredictable conditions may delay or even cause loss of goods. With the increase in trade volume, seaport congestion has become a challenge. Some ports have poor equipment and cannot transmit safely and quickly. Congestion of containers entering and leaving the terminal area is common, and road or rail infrastructure needs to be upgraded in many areas. Containerization only allows certain sizes, and the minimum size is suitable for the load. All of this means that air freight is becoming a more attractive option.

1. Main airports and cities for Cargo in China

Due to its massive size and geographical differences, China relies heavily on air transportation. Not all development zones and manufacturing centers are close to seaports, which makes air freight a necessity and convenience for shipping from China to UAE. By plane.

As we all know, the main trading cities in China are: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong. Thanks to China’s continued economic growth and the government’s commitment to supporting international trade, China’s civil airport sector has made rapid, high-quality progress in the past decade. China's airport network provides an important system for transportation throughout Asia and is an indispensable part of air cargo from China to UAE. China's air cargo market is attracting funds from international investment institutions, which has contributed to the growth and success of airport operations, airlines and other related infrastructure. Chinese freight forwarders that air freight from China to UAE are taking advantage of the efficiency gains in this sector.

Five major cargo cities and their airports in Mainland China and Hong Kong International Airport are listed below:

In 2018, Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in Shanghai received approximately 70 million passengers, with an annual growth of over 5%. It handles more than 3.6 million tons of cargo each year and has become the largest air cargo hub in China and even Asia.
The state-owned Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA) operates Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA) International Airports. The new satellite terminal was opened at Pudong in 2019. The airport now has an annual capacity of 80 million. The new H-shaped terminal covers an area of 620 square kilometers. It has a passenger terminal with an area of 125,000 square meters (1,350,000 square feet). Sharjah International Airport is the base of the low-cost airline Air Arabia. The headquarters of Air Arabia is located in the Sharjah Freight Center, located on the property of the airport in Sharjah, UAE. The center is an old cargo station.

Sharjah Airport has five cargo terminals with a total floor area of 32,000 square metres. The five cargo terminals at Sharjah Airport are equipped for handling up to 16 different types of aircraft and cargo aircraft parking positions. The terminals have facilities for cargo holding, imports, freight forwarders, customs and overflow imports, and exports.

Part 2. Air Cargo Products

According to affordability and urgency of delivery, air freight services can be divided into three categories. The types of goods such as perishable/non-perishable and dangerous goods also affect the cost. Other cost considerations include the type and quantity of packaging required. Once you have decide to use air cargo service, you can use the following options when shipping from China (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong) to the UAE.

1. Economical Air Freight

This service is still much faster than traditional marine shipping options but is suitable for less urgent deliveries at a more economical rate.

2. Standard Air Freight

A high quality service with all the advantages of efficient air transport. Fast delivery, accurate tracking and guaranteed results.

3. Urgent Air Freight

First class offering designed for valuable, time critical deliveries at the best possible rates. Both once-off or frequent deliveries are possible and flexible arrangements for sizes and weights can be made.

These services provide door-to-door delivery services at one price, which includes all costs and most documents including customs clearance. This is different from the usual airport-to-airport service of air freight. However, this is a very expensive option that can eliminate any potential value or profitability in the process. Unless the goods have extremely high value, such as coins or other valuable commodities, it is actually not suitable for international trade.

courier carriers

Typically all air freight cargo is high value goods which have operationally or commercially critical time delivery requirements.

General Cargo

Suitable items for air cargo from China (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong) to the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman), including; air mail & diplomatic mail, pharmaceuticals, electronics, product samples, express parcels, valuables (jewelry, precious gems and metals). The value of electronic air transport accounts for about 40% of all international air transport trade. Transportation costs are high, but the value of the goods makes this method useful for international trade.

Special Cargo

This includes perishable or hazardous/hazardous items, which require special handling and extensive inspections. This includes;
• Perishables such as flowers, human remains, human organs and certain medicines.
•Live animals
• Temperature-controlled items, such as food (seafood)
• Flammable, corrosive or toxic hazardous materials, such as radioactive materials, infectious agents (microbes/viruses), and corrosive chemicals, such as high-strength acids.

Before entering into any trade agreement or freight forwarding agreement, the buyer is responsible for determining the type of cargo restrictions that exist for his particular air cargo. Air freight from China and the UAE has strict regulations on prohibited and controlled substances in air freight from China to the UAE. Each airline will also list a series of restrictions and control measures. In addition, most relevant airlines will no longer allow the following potentially dangerous items to be carried through air cargo; lithium battery toys, scooters, hoverboards, power supplies, mobile power supplies, airbags, electric panels and electronic boards.

An Identification and Classification Report for Air Transport of Goods must be received by the carrier before loading takes place.

Incoterms

Incoterms are a set of agreed rules or contracts which define the roles and related responsibilities between buyers and sellers sending air freight from China to UAE. All parties should be aware of these legal arrangements even if a Freight Forwarder or Agent is being used as ultimate responsibility remains with the commissioners of the delivery. The following Incoterms have been agreed;

1. FOB
Free on board is the most common agreement as it is seen as fair to both buyer and seller. In this case the supplier is responsible and liable for goods until officially received by the carrier. This should take place at the location from where the cargo will leave China for UAE. After this handover the buyer takes liability and is responsible for the goods.

2 CIF
In a Cost, Insurance Freight agreement, the supplier covers all costs for importing from China to UAE, including insurance. The buyer and supplier agree where the delivery ends and the buyer is responsible for costs after arrival at this point.

incoterms
incoterms

3. EXW
This agreement allows the buyer to take reposncbility and remain in control of every part of the delivery of air cargo from China to UAE. The Seller is only responsible for sourcing an export license and Certificate of Origin. All other documnetaiotn must be provided by the buyer. This type of agreement is udsusually used in conjunction with other terms or when a Freight Forwarder is involved.

4. DAP
Delivery At Place is an agreement where the seller makes all the arrangements except for the customs import fee. The seller is still responsible and liable for all aspects of the delivery until after the shipment lands at the destination airport. The buyer can then choose where the delivery is to be picked up and is responsible for unloading and further transportation.

5. DDP
Delivered Duty Paid is where the Seller makes all the arrangements for the delivery including customs import fees. It is consiederd preferential to the buyer. Buyers must only unload and pay for import clearance. All details and payments must be agreed in advance and a landing cost is offered as a cumulative quote to the Buyer. If the Buyer agrees on the quote, the Seller can choose the best carrier for air cargo China in terms of cost and time.

6. BOL
The Bill of Lading is an absolute requirement for all air freight from China ( Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong) to the UAE. It acknowledges the recipt of cargo by the carrier and serves as a document of title to the goods. It is a conclusive receipt and also contains the terms of the agreement. When involved, agents must also be included in the BOL. Other relevant players should also be detailed for example the Shipper & Consignee, the Carrier who issed the BOL, the Origin freight forwarder and the Destination freight forwarder.

7. Waybill
A Waybill is a non-negotiable transport document issued by the carrier. It lists the goods which have been accepted for carriage and agrees to deliver them to the agreed destination according to specific conditions. It differs from the BOL as it is NOT a legal contract and does not legitimize ownership of goods. It is an essential document for recording any and all specific details regarding the goods and transportation.

Air Costs

The total cost of air freight from China (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong) to the UAE is composed of many elements, such as cargo type (handling and documents), arrival time, delivery and weight. The air freight cost is only used for the aircraft transportation part. It does not include domestic pickup or delivery on either side of the airport (China or UAE).

The freight is charged based on the higher of the actual weight of the package (kg) or the dimensional weight (DIM) of the package. DIM is measured in kilograms, and the formula used takes into account the cubic size (volume) and weight of the package. The calculation is as follows;

box size calulate
calculation of dimensional weight

Example:
Here is an example of an air freight cost calculation for a lightweight foam product;
Shipping Method: Air Shipping from China to UAE
Destination: Dubai or Abu Dhabi, UAE
Actual Weight: 35kg
Length: 100cm
Width: 80cm
Height: 100cm
Cubic Size Calculation: 100 x 80 x 100 = 800 000cm3
Dimensional Weight Calculation (DIM): 800 000 / 6000 = 133kg

In this case, the dimensional weight is much heavier than the actual weight (133kg vs. 35kg). Therefore, you need to pay a weight of 133 kg (clearable weight) for the delivered air transportation part. However, if you are transporting very dense packaging (such as batteries), the actual weight may be heavier than DIM. In this case, this is the weight that will be charged to you, that is, the billable weight. Depending on the type of goods, a flat fee is usually charged for the first kilogram. The minimum order quantity (MOQ) is usually 45kg.

1. Consider the type of packaging materials you use. Use appropriate types and quantities of materials. Use the correct size of container so you don't have to use a lot of packaging to save space.

2. Arrange commuting to and from get off work after get off work, because most companies have set office hours, for the convenience of transportation companies, you may get lower fees.

3. Sending off peaks can also reduce costs. This will require some investigation or advice from an experienced freight forwarder. It also requires planning, for example, you want to plan seasonal deliveries in advance.

4. Try to send more goods, but less often, because distance is the decisive factor and economies of scale play an important role in air cargo from China to the UAE.

5. If you really need to send a smaller package, please ask a Chinese air freight forwarder to try to find a consolidation service from China to UAE, so that you can reduce costs by simply filling the gap in the larger load of other customers.

6. Arrange your time appropriately. When possible, your logistics plan should take into account urgent and delayed transportation, which will allow you to negotiate better rates with airlines that use air freight forwarders.

7. Make sure your paperwork is correct to avoid custom fines and delays. This increases costs and leads to waste. Before you have internal working experience, please consult a freight forwarder or customs expert. Not worthy of carelessness or impersonation of paperwork that may lead to dire consequences; fines or even forfeiture.

8. Make appropriate arrangements for perishable goods and other special goods to avoid losses and supply chain delays.

9. Make sure you have adequate and adequate insurance coverage. This includes using the correct Incoterms to reach consensus with other parties to avoid excessive or insufficient insurance. You will need to use the services of an insurance broker specializing in international trade.

10. Let your logistics team participate in the upstream planning of manufacturing, product design, packaging types and production, taking all the above factors into consideration.

11. Stick to the dimensions of the unit loading device (ULD) as much as possible. These are the load sizes standardized by IATA, taking into account the safety and efficiency of packaging. The maximum load can reach 6.8 tons.

The air freight price can also include the following;
• Fuel surcharge - allows fuel price fluctuations.
• Security surcharge - the storage and protection of valuables regulations.
• Terminal loading and unloading fees (at the container freight station) -depends on individual airport.
• Airport shuttle – if there is no direct flight or unable to synchronize the schedule.

Additional costs of shipping for door-to-door delivery (in addition to air freight as calculated above):

customs clearance
customs clearance

1. Import taxes, custom duties and tariffs (Customs brokerage)
Harmonized System Code (HS CODE)
Each product has an international classification number. This will affect the amount of duty you need to pay. It is important to choose the correct code for your product to avoid delays and potential fines. If you are using an air freight forwarder from China to UAE, you need to provide very specific cargo details, such as 20% cotton, 80% man-made fibers, to ensure that the correct code is used.
2. Pickup and delivery - normal shipping costs
3. Cargo Insurance
4. Additional costs, such as reclassification and reweighing, maintenance and storage of hazardous materials, additional security for valuables, specific delivery requirements

Freight Forwarders

In order to simplify the process, especially for first-time shippers, and air freight forwarder will be needed. They have a rich experience and help to process all necessary documents for you. They will also calculate all costs and inform you of any additional costs or other complications that may arise. They have relationships with air freight operators, so they can get more competitive prices due to bulk ordering. Part 4. How long for air freight from China to UAE

Emergency shipping and timely delivery are the specialty of air freight services. However, the ability to schedule and extend these delivery times will result in lower transportation costs. For some items, such as perishables, the delivery time must be short, but you can plan ahead and book at a lower price.
Knowing the choice of time, transportation time, and cost can help with effective logistics planning and know how long it takes for air freight from China to UAE.

This is the fastest and most expensive method of air transportation between China and UAE. These companies provide limited but proven door-to-door services. Usually, they can use their own aircraft fleet and maximize delivery speed by using specific routes and customs portals. The goods can be tracked in real time, and the documents are mainly handled by the courier, including customs clearance. The main difference between air cargo operators is that they provide airport-to-airport services, while couriers provide door-to-door services. Another major difference is that the fees they charge are very expensive. This makes the service largely unsuitable for trade purposes, except for the highest-value, small-volume commodities.

Depending on the pick-up and delivery location, these can be as fast as 1 -3 days. For example, the shortest flight time from Guangzhou to Dubai international airport is 8 hours. This is a fixed variable and cannot be accelerated in any way. A 24 hour delivery to an address in Dubai would need to to take into account;
1. Loading and unloading transportation time in China (road and airport).
2. At least 13 hours flight time (depending on weather and route).
3. offload and reloading at Dubai International Airport.
4. Delivery distance and time (traffic, etc.) to the delivery address in Dubai.
In order to deliver on time 24 hours, either must book in advance, or the delivery time cannot be guaranteed.

How long does it take for air transport from China to UAE(Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Al Ain, Umm Al Quwain), by standard air freight depends on the location and destination of the goods. It may take 2 to 3 days from China to Dubai airport, then take one day more to the other city in UAE.

Economic air freight which takes 4-6 days from China to UAE is still faster than sea freight transportation with a more reasonable price, because freight operators can plan bulk cargo and submit documents for processing in advance.

Considerations on how long it will take for air freight from China to UAE
In any country/region, the standard "days" in the freight quotation are working days, does not take into account the date of receipt, weekends or holidays. The final delivery date depends on many factors, including airline schedules, road schedules, and most importantly, the distance to the destination. Some areas of China are less accessible than others, and the access speed of air links is slower. Similarly, the remote location in UAE can also affect delivery times.

Potential Delays

Countless factors may delay air shipments from China to the UAE. Weather conditions may delay fights as well as air traffic contral and road congestion. Some customs departments are not as efficient as others, and complex cargos may cause delays in other downstream deliveries. Practical considerations such as fuel shortages, mechanical failures of airplanes, trucks and other delivery vehicles may slow down transportation, and human error in the handover chain is always possible. Documentation is one of the biggest reasons for delivery delays. This is why the establishment of Incoterms, and requires experienced import practitioners (such as the air freight agent you choose) to use these terms carefully. Otherwise, when the importer processes the delivery and declares the goods, this may be delayed by at least 24 – 48 hours. Goods declared from China may cause delays of 2-4 days, which is why it is recommended to use a Chinese air freight forwarders. All details on the statement must be true, accurate and complete. Vague details, false statements and inappropriate descriptions may lead to further delays and penalties, such as fines, confiscation of property, and sometimes even criminal charges. This may increase the time for air transport from China to the UAE.

Airport of Origin Destination Airport Est. Transit Time

Beijing Abu Dhabi 10 Hours
Beijing Sharjah 1 Day
Guangzhou Dubai 8 Hours
Guangzhou Abu Dhabi 8.5 Hours
Guangzhou Sharjah 1 Day
Shanghai Dubai 9 Hours
Shanghai Abu Dhabi 1 Day
Shanghai Sharjah 2 Day
Shenzhen Dubai 10 Hours

Flight Schedules

There are many flights from China to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE every day. Therefore, it is important to consult a freight experts to find out which is the best option or your cargo based on the location of the departure and destination, the regularity of flights and flight times, and the amount of air freight from China to the UAE. In China there are several airports that only handle cargo and some which have a limited passenger service but with extensive China air freight services, such as Zhengzhou international airpory. The nearest and busiest passenger airport may not be your best choice for air freight from China to the UAE. To get the best price, it is necessary to conduct a complete investigation of your options.

Part 5. Air Shipping Process with China Best Freight for air cargo

Which Incoterm to Use

We recommend that you sign a free boat (FOB) agreement with your supplier, which includes road transportation from the loading destination to the airport of origin. This can reduce transportation costs, while you can retain some control and management of the process. If your agreement is EXW, we can also arrange internal transportation and pickup. We recommend this only for samples and small orders. If you have to take responsibility for the cargo until the airport, you may encounter many difficulties. You will need to arrange for unloading at the warehouse, and then may also need to be transported to the carrier. You must also go through customs formalities at the airport, which definitely means you will have to know the shipping cost of air freight from China to the UAE.

If you need a China Air Cargo Agent to handle these additional EXW requirements, obviously the freight will increase and the delivery time will be longer. In theory, it makes sense to leave transportation arrangements and costs to the supplier. However, this may cost more than a simple FOB agreement, because the supplier can use the transport as a mark up. They also do not engage in the transportation business, so in order to avoid insufficient quotes, they sometimes charge excessive fees. This will also take into account the time lag between manufacturing and delivery and the associated increased costs (fuel increase, etc.), as they cannot afford the risk of paying for transportation costs from the package.

In addition, using FOB means that your cargo will be handled by professional air freight forwarders with international logistics experience and support network. Unless you are used to operating in this space, it will be cheaper and faster to use FOB and one of our transportation partners to handle all logistics and potential potholes. China Air Cargo agent has a reputation for quality and competitiveness, and will maintain this reputation at all costs.
